FACTSnet organizations are applying for funding for student summer employment from the following government programs:

Positions for the summer of 2016 will be posted here in late February or early March of 2016.  

FACTSnet is very much student-driven, and many of the projects worked on by interns and summer employees reflect their personal interests (make sure to mention these when you send your resume).

This summer we plan to focus on Canada 2017 and the sustainability of our Heritage, Mental Health, Newcomers to Canada, Low Income and Alberta/Japan networks.

Serving Communities Internship Program (SCiP)
  1. Alberta nonprofit organizations register, create, and then post meaningful, part-time internships to help achieve their missions.
  2. Students register, then search, and apply for internships available on the database.
  3. Students work together with the organization to meet the goals and expectations of the internship.
  4. Upon completion of the internship the students apply for and receive a $1000 bursary from the Government of Alberta (at no cost to the organization).

Bilingual Summer Program Manager 2015

The primary responsibility will be to assist the Executive Director, in managing volunteers and other team  members  in developing community networks, with an emphasis on networks that contribute to our Canada 2017 Networks.  Our networks are community based connecting with organizations and individuals across Canada, that work with families, teachers, students, parents, and seniors.   A special effort will be made to contact groups that work with, aboriginals, persons with disabilities, and newcomers to Canada and use French as well as English.  Networks will build on existing FACTS networks and the development of  new networks as required.  The employee must support our Value Based Medium including the values of our partners and sponsors, and work on projects with our partners and/or sponsors (like Campus St. Jean), as required.  Research, training and network development may take place at various sites within and outside the community and over the Internet.

Community Network Coordinator

Community Network Coordinator

The Family and Community Twining Society (FACTS) is a non-profit organization that aims to develop networks of people working to address the needs of the community. We are looking for a student who is passionate about continuing to develop FACTSnet community networks and possesses the leadership skills needed to coordinate one or more networks. Currently our emphasis is on networks that contribute to our Canada 2017 initiatives, which are being developed in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary. Our networks are community based, and connect with organizations and individuals across Canada that work with families, teachers, students, parents, and seniors. A special effort will be made to contact groups that work with aboriginals, persons with disabilities, and newcomers to Canada and use French as well as English.

The successful intern will work on one or more projects that reflect their academic background and personal interests. Projects will be determined in consultation with the FACTSnet team, and deadlines will be negotiated with the intern prior to beginning work. The position of Network Coordinator also entails supervising and coordinating network participants and administrative work related to the FACTSnet team. The volunteer must support the values that FACTS is committed to uphold, as well as the values of our partners and sponsors. Research, training and network development may take place at various sites in specific communities and over the Internet. Regular meetings and reporting to the FACTSnet team will be required from all interns.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate work being done on one or more FACTSnet networks.
  • Undertake administrative duties for the FACTSnet team.
  • Participate in one or more networking dialogues.
  • Communicate with and report regularly to the FACTSnet team, through email and meetings.
