FACTSnet Student Opportunities

$1000 Internships (Post-Secondary):

FACTSnet is pleased to present Volunteer Alberta’s Serving Communities Internship Program that offers volunteer internships to post-secondary students from one of Alberta’s 26 publicly funded institutions. Interns are paid a $1000 award after the successful completion of their internship. Apply for an internship starting December 1st 2018 , (Go to the SCIP Website Steps for Students). Once you have completed Step One, you may apply for internships. See below:

Summer Jobs for Youth and Young Adults (15-30):

Most Internships lead to a summer job.  Those who don't qualify for a SCiP internship can email their resume to factsuma@gmail.com.


FACTSnet Summer jobs allow you to Maximize Your Employability through Career and Personal Development.  We apply for you to take the Maximize Your Potential course. You will also learn to use google apps, and other technologies, to work on our digital collections.    

In developing digital collections you will work with community organizations, team members and volunteers to contribute to our community based networks, which connect organizations and individuals in their community and across Canada with each other and resources.

Summer Jobs for Youth:


Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) "program objectives have been updated to:
  • Provide quality work experiences for youth; [ages 15-30 not just students]
  • Respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers; and,
  • Provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills."

For 2019, we are currently hiring team leaders (Usually, SCiP interns).  Summer jobs will focus on Digital Collections Research and Development.  To get an idea of what we do view Summer 2018 Summaries. See FACTSnet Summer 2019 and/or email factsuma@gmail.com for more information. 

Tutoring Services:

Our tutoring services go beyond the academics to address a broad range of student needs. We currently have tutors that can offer academic support in paper writing. English as a Second Language, and History. We also have tutors who can help with Equine (learning about horses), adjusting to life in Canada for International Students, dealing with a disability and workability (work skills to get a keep a job). If you would like to learn more about being a tutor or obtaining tutoring services email factsuma@gmail.com

    K-9 School and community programs:

    We mostly do curriculum related heritage programs. We have done in school field trips and Summer programs in the community.


    9-12 High School Credit:

    We have done work experience and working on Animal Care Credit.


    Scholarship Master


    There are opportunities for anyone who wants to network with others as part of a FACTSnet Network. Currently most of our opportunities are for students and those who work with students and Not-For-Profit Organizations. For example, Alberta Not-For Profit Organizations may be able to extend their hours for Summer Students by applying for a SCIP internship see student link below.

    1. Bilingual collections (French and English).
    2. Not-for-profit business collections (all aspects of running an organization).

    7. Digital Technology collections (especially google apps)
    8. Education collections
    9. Make, Fix, Recycle collections
    10. Health and Wellness collections
    11. Heritage collections
    12. Music collections (Oh Canada and Christmas)
    13. Student and volunteer opportunities collections
    14. Vulnerable and disadvantaged collections including: youth, seniors, newcomers to Canada, indigenous people, visible minorities and people with disabilities

All interns are paid a $1000 honorarium after the successful completion of their internship.       We have immediate needs for interns in Spruce Grove and will help other Alberta students find internship & other opportunities by hosting opportunity seminars for both students and organizations on August 14 (Calgary), 16 (Edmonton), 17 (Spruce Grove).       We hope to hear about funding on May 2nd and offer jobs after a job competition on May 2nd at 4pm.  Selected students will get an invitation to the job completion they send their resume by April 29th.  Students who have sent in their resumes by the April 15th deadline may be given preference.

      Richard S. Fowler Catholic Junior High School:
      Using the grade 7 and 8 Religion Curriculum see Faith in Action Research Questions as a starting point, we propose to research and summarize the life of Richard S. Fowler with the view of showing how his life exemplifies what is studied in the curriculum and is an inspiration for our school.
