February 5th Summer Jobs Workshop and Information Session (UofA)

When: 5pm, February 5th 2013.  Where: Tory Building room B 38.  

We will start with the information session (about 30 minutes), which will highlight opportunities for summer employment with the Not for Profit sector, emphasizing
FACTSnet Summer Jobs 2013 .
  • To apply for a summer job you need to be a full time student (ages 15-30) who is going back to school next fall, a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant. see above link for more details.  



    • We work flexible hours (you can for the most part work your own hours).
    • For students, who do well, we offer bonuses and advertise future consulting opportunities for them.
    • We also offer 20% of your time to work on approved projects initiated by you that relate to your job.  For example, you could work on a project for your campus club.
The Information Session will be followed by a workshop to write job descriptions to apply for Canada Summer Jobs funding.



  1. These descriptions will be tailored to individual interests, wherever possible.



  2. The opportunities are varied.  Scroll down the FACTSnet Index to see blogs that have been worked on by previous summer students.  If you are aboriginal, from a visible minority or have a disability; you have better chance of getting a job.

Summer Opportunities for Business Students 2013

The opportunities for business students who are interested in the Not for Profit sector is almost limitless.  Besides handling payroll and other basic summer business duties, there is room for developing business and community networks and exploring possibilities for FACTSnet development.  This year we could hire more than one business student with each student emphasizing a different aspect of FACTSnet.  See links below for what previous Summer Business Managers have done:

The job description for this year could be used as a starting point for summer 2013 job descriptions.  Besides supervising the other jobs listed, the business manager worked with a volunteer to develop a custom template for FACTSnet blogs.

    • We work flexible hours (you can for the most part work your own hours).

FACTSnet Summer Jobs 2012

Summer Jobs applied for in 2012:
The jobs listed above, except one were were funded by Canada Summer Jobs.  Therefore, to apply for a position you need to be a full time student (ages 15-30) who is going back to school next fall, a landed immigrant (see  Eligible Student Participants).  Preference will be given to education students with the background and experience suitable for the specific job. All eligible students are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to priority students (aboriginals,  disabled persons and members of visible minorities).

In your email or covering letter indicate:
* That you are an "eligible student" for a Canada Summer Job,
* If you belong to a priority group (Aboriginal etc.),
* When you would be available for an interview.
* Which jobs are of interest to you, in order of priority.

We hope to hear about funding by the first week of May and offer jobs, immediately. To get an invitation to a job completion send your resume ASAP..
